Projects from Semester 1
Architectural Design I
This preliminary design module aims to present and explain design through the expression of the perception of ‘self’ and the body, construction and materiality in terms of tectonics. Students will undertake a series of studio-based exercises and assignments that introduces the fundamental methods, principles and approaches in design thinking and basic spatial design. This will be enhanced with understanding of anthropometrics and designing intrapersonal space with creative exercise involving the body movements and experiences of the user.
Design Communication
The module introduces fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings to prepare students with the skills required in design projects.
Architecture History and Theory
In this module, students will learn a chronological history of the developments of Ancient architecture to Western architecture through various gamification and technologies applications provided in the module site.
At the end of this module, students are expected to employ appropriate visual and verbal architectural vocabulary when referring to building types, styles and periods, and at the same time show the appropriate sequence of historical periods and how they are represented architecturally.
Architecture and Environment
The module introduces the components of environmental conditions and issues. It focuses on human intervention affecting the environment both positively and negatively and the relationship of buildings with the natural system. Students will be introduced to basic environmental awareness through lectures and discussions. Additionally the module introduces students to the basic elements of climate and their influences on architecture, which aims to facilitate students to create acceptable environmentally conscious and comfortable building designs. There will be formative and summative assessments in this module comprising of an assignment, test and case study.
