Architecture History & Theory
Tutor: Ms. Delliya Zain & Dr. Filzani Illia
Project 1 : Sketching Analysis ( Individual )
A research and architectural analysis on selected buildings of different historical timelines. The buildings that I've chosen are Skara Brae, The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Roman Temple : Maison Carrée , The Church of Gesu and the Chiswick House. It's incredible how architecture has progressed since the beginning of human civilization. I've learnt to organize and analyze my research in a cohesive manner and to do sketches that communicate the information clearly. One thing I hope to further improve on is to have more in-depth researches and subsequently have sketches that can bring out the information better.
Project 2 : Comparative Analysis Report
A group project that requires us to undertake a research comparative analysis process on Modern Malaysian architecture practices throughout history through literature review and document analysis and present an appropriate chronological account of the Malaysian architecture based on the understanding gained through the analysis procedure.
Self - Reflection
From this module, I've learnt the significance of history, which is of paramount importance as I was reminded of my roots and the phenomenal development of architecture since the early civilization of mankind. History should not be forgotten as it provides us a better understanding of the world we're living in now.
Though we went fully online this semester, which was a little less fun as compared to face-to face classes as I was not able to meet all my new friends and lecturers, I am still grateful to have the opportunity to learn with the accessibility of the Internet. All of our lecturers, especially Dr.Lia and Ms.Dee who have tried their best to provide us with very sufficient and comprehensive study materials that have eased our understanding on the subject matter.
I am incredibly thankful to have Ms.Dee as my tutor, who has motivated me to do my best in all my assignments. She is also extremely helpful and patient, sharing generous amount of information from various sources which has inspired me to do the same in the future.
Upon completion of this module, I've learnt how to think critically when analyzing my research, develop my skills in sketches and strengthen my knowledge in architecture and history. I'm also thankful for the group assignment as I've stepped out of my comfort zone being a group leader. Since I was more quiet and shy, I found myself more comfortable in speaking and was more proactive in leading the team. Though I might not be the best I hope that with more practice I can improve further as I go.
